North Carolina

Did you know they have Lightning Bugs in North Carolina? I have wonderful memories of them from my childhood in Kansas City, but the kids have never seen them – I’m sure the locals think we’re nuts, but we can’t get enough of them!

We also love the heat and humidity – maybe this will get old, but for now we love it.

We are taking the opportunity to see some of the history here while Wayne and Gable bring much needed cooling to a home full of grateful elderly southerners who think they are wonderful.

Note the medicine bottles from long ago – what happened to these elixirs? We could sure use them today!

- Restorative Nerve pills

- Tonic to make children as fat as pigs

- Laxative and Ringworm cures

And my favorite:

- Compound for Female Weaknesses

Hey guys! You all look so happy. It is nice to see your pictures. We also go nuts over lightning bugs. When we lived in Chicago we used to catch them and put them in glass jars and place them by the kids beds for nightlihts. Believe it or not, we still try to catch them when we go back to the mid-west.
I think you should pick up some of those restorative nerve pills for me! Living in the close confines of our current address is "nerve-raking". If I step on the dogs or they step on me ONE more time....
Love and Miss you!
