Smoke on the Mountain

We spent the weekend in Galax Virginia at a cabin in the woods. Galax hosts the States Annual “Smoke on the Mountain” BBQ cook-off championship and fiddling contest and so we voted to do this instead of driving to the coast to see the Atlantic ocean. The BBQ was great (I won’t even mention the deep fried Snickers and Oreos), but the highlight was the old-fashioned mugs with the soda fountain! 

The judging:

Our cabin had its own fishing pond and I don’t think the kids have ever had such a fun time catching fish (almost with every cast). We caught everything from Largemouth Bass to Perch by the dozens to Catfish and Bluegill. We couldn’t get enough – chasing fireflies and fishing and the best part….. Dads phone didn’t work all the way out there! I didn’t get a picture of our cabin, but it came well equipped with everything including a wash machine, which we really needed.

I know - I'm pretty brave to post this picture, but I did catch this fish and land it all by myself!
