We had such a busy summer, and when we got home from our trip out east, the life that we put on hold for a month came rolling right over the top of us. I have so much to get posted so bear with me.
The day after we returned home, Maddy, Glory and I headed off to girls camp:
It was Maddy's 4th year which means she was off to rough it with the other 4th-years on a hicking/camping trip which included filtering her own water, digging holes for a bathroom and using campfire ash for sunblock...among other things. Here she is before they headed out.
Meanwhile back at camp...Glory (who was a "first-year") and I stayed at the church campsite and enjoyed all of the fun activities, hiking, learning and socializing (Glory's favorite thing to do!). I will say we had our share of "roughing it" dealing with the rain and "bathfoom issues", but it didn't put a damper on our fun.
Why no pictures of me?? Oh well, it must have been an accidental oversight on my part.
Finally, when the 4th-years came back, the whole camp welcomed them and congratulated them on finishing their difficult adventure and the younger girls carried their packs back into camp. Glory was so proud to be able to carry Maddy’s backpack and as an added bonus, she washed her feet when we got back to our camp as a symbol of love and service.
Another special part was when they had the "4th-years" break their boards with their hands. The girls had made these boards earlier and put their dreams on one side and their fears on the other. The idea was that they break through their fears into their dreams and it was a very emotional thing for them (and for their moms). And…Maddy did it!
Gable also went on his High Adventure Scout camp, and since Wayne didn’t join him until the last day I don’t have any pictures – hopefully some of the leaders took some for the poor mothers who thrive on seeing their kids escape death by fulfilling any number of life threatening activities and they will share them with those moms soon. Here’s the only picture I have, it’s a picture Wayne took when he and Gable finished the week fishing together. Apparently Gable was quite the sportsman catching 10 to 1 the amount of fish the other boys did and he even dressed and cooked a duck after someone ( not Gable, but someone…I’m just saying) accidently killed it by hitting it with a rock. You find these things out by overhearing and listening to the leaders and kids talking, not by asking your son “how did camp go?” You also learn things like he was jumping and speeding down the black diamond runs on his mountain bike. It’s a good thing mom’s don’t get to go along on the high adventure scout camps!
