The first half of our year - in a nut shell

Now that I have this blogging thing down, I decided to try to go back and capture a condensed version of the first half of the year to include on our Blog.

New years day was a beautiful day in colorado, so while Wayne and Gable were in Dallas at a wrestling tournament, the girls (and Eli) decided to go on a walk.
Gable was one of two freshman on the Varsity team at his school, and they aptly nick named him Baby Gabe, or Gabey (a name which has stuck and will probably be the name he is known by at school) as he was the smallest and youngest one on the team.  He had a rough start to his High School wrestling career, but I have admired his courage and persistance as he kept at it and time and time again faced opponents who were - well let's just they were older and they were hairy.  Unfortunity, some of the qualities that make him a GREAT kid, don't help with his wrestling that much - like being layed back and easy going.  He actually needs to learn how to get mad.  The yoga class he's taking this year probably isn't helping with that much.  He did have some great matches though and he really did enjoy his team and his teammates.

Maddy - the photographer - grabbed the camera and they packed a lunch and headed to the gully to enjoy a sunny winter day.

A Birthday in February - Glory and her friends - we went to Gunther Tooties and had some 50s stlyle breakfast for dinner

In March we found ourselves at one of our all time favorite places - The Littleton Historical Museum.  We have been going here since Gable was a baby and have loved it ever since.
Powered O Flight:
With his Civil Air Patrol, Gable gets to take several different fights throughout the year.  Here he is getting ready to fly this plane -I don't know what kind it is, but I know he does.  They flew out to Limon, got a soda, and flew back.  I can tell you he is causing our parental comfort level to be questioned almost every day now - they never tell you when they send you home with those beautiful, tender little babys that you are going to have to watch them fly away without you someday.  Oh how sweet it hurts!!
Here's a picture of our house as they flew over it - March isn't the most beautiful time to get an aerial picture, but we'll take it.  What a great opportunity for him!
A Violin/Viola recital - We are so blessed to have the same violin teacher we had when Maddy started taking the violin all those years ago (even with a hiatus to St. George).  She is so good to us, and even comes to our house for our lessons so we don't have to spend so much time in the car etc.  She also teaches both the violin and the viola, so she's a perfect match for us (she was actually the one who suggested Glory switch to viola, and what a great fit that turned out to be!)  She has started helping the girls with some quartet music and ensemble playing and the kids have enjoyed playing in various settings (the hospital & nursing homes) as they practice their playing.  We have found them to be very gracious audiences and it has helped the kids understand the value of sharing their talents (no matter what level they're at) while gaining confidence.
Dying eggs for Easter
A Spring Storm - the snow was heavy and thick and beautiful!  We love a snow day and love to get our snowsuits on and spend hours in the snow, but we really love getting into our "warms and cozys" and snuggling up with some hot chocolate!
The Mothers Day Regatta
One of our family traditions is the Mothers Day Regatta.  The kids prepare for days (or weeks) beforehand, creating their boats.  Every mothers day we find some water - and have a race.  There are many prizes to be won like the best named boat or the most sea worthy, or even the titanic award, but it was Gable and Eli's boat that made it across the finish line first and won the race this year.  Our cousin Bailey definitly gets the award for the best made boat though - her's was even made out of wood!  This has become a favorite day for the Grandmas too.
we spend half of the time retrieving the boats back out of the water!
I woke up on Mothers Day to a yard full of well wishes from the young women in our ward at church.  I was recently released from my young women's calling, and it was so wonderful to wake up and see all of the loving messages from such sweet girls.  It made my day!
Another Birthday - This one in May - Eli turns 4
Mama makes the kids cakes each time they have a Birthday, and it's always exciting to see what kind it will be.  This one was delicious like they always are.
Field Day at C2E
An 8th Grade Graduation and a Kindergarten Continuation
And a Cello Recital too - Gracey started taking the cello in January, and that means we now have entire quartet!  She loves it and is doing a great job.  I don't know why we ever worried about her making the change, because she is just a natural cellist - it suits her to a tee!
