The World of Literacy

Reading is such a big part of our lives (especially my life).  I echo the words of Gordon B Hinkley who said "There is something wonderful about a book. We can pick it up. We can heft it. We can read it. We can set it down. We can think of what we have read. It does something for us. We can share great minds, great actions, and great undertakings in the pages of a book."

I delight in the fact that our kids have embraced this love of literature and it makes me feel all warm inside when I catch them so engrossed in a book that they can't put it down.

Secretly, I even chuckle to myself when their passion for a good book causes them to absentmindedly disregard my parental babble - but don't tell them that.
(Wayne however isn’t quite as enamored when I escape into the eighteenth century for a couple of days and forget I have a family back here in the 21st century)

As our sixth child begins his adventure into the world of literacy I am once more given pause as I reflect on the rapidity at which our family is growing up. Eli is reading! He is absorbing this world of words with amazing enthusiasm and a natural aptitude and I can honestly say it is such a blessing!

Reading is truly a miracle and I am so thankful for good books and for the opportunity they afford us to keep learning – even when we get old! How true the words of  Mark Twain who said "The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them".

Do you think Dot and Mit constitutes a good book? Yes, surly it must.

Eli, What a wonderful job! I love Dot and Mit books! You can go anywhere and be anything in books. Both Chris and Meghan loved DANNY AND THE DINOSAUR and I hope one day you will read it too!
