Not gone...just over the hill (and down the street)
Moving is never fun and the past two weeks have been no exception. We had discussed the idea of taking a month to move - methodically going through everything we own and weeding out all of the junk we have accumulated over the past few years. That and we had intended to move without burdening others in the attempt (maybe it would be more accurate to say we didn’t want to expose what it looks like under our beds or the gum stuck under the table etc…). We should have known better! Something we should have never underestimated was the affection Mormons have for a good move.
The line from the movie Field of Dreams “If you build it they will come” resonates in my mind, but amended with the words “If you box it they will come” (actually they will help box it and unbox it too). When you throw in a few Catholics and some family members what you have is a month long move lasting a weekend. What I do know is that we do not deserve the wonderful friends we have been blessed to associate with. So many times our friends (and family) have jumped to our aid before we could even articulate a need. We are so thankful to have so many wonderful people in our lives and are humbled by the Lords goodness at allowing us such associations. (Either that or they are all trying to get rid of us – now that’s a distinct possibility)
So now we are city-folks – or more accurately suburbanites.
I will always be country girl at heart and will cherish the wonderful memories we have made on our little “farm”, but as we circle the wagons and simplify our lives (being a “glass is half full” kind of a gal) I will tell you 5 things I will not miss:
1. The refrigerator fashioned into a pantry or having the refrigerator located in the dining room.
2. Snow removal in the driveway requiring the use of small (or rather large) farm equipment.
3. Long drives on country roads into town (especially significant as our teenagers enter the world of driving).
4. Septic tanks and compromised drainpipes – I don’t think you want the details; let’s just say no more turd chasing for Wayne.
5. Carpet in the bathrooms - Again I’ll spare you the details
Add to this the fact that we now have a double oven and 2 dishwashers and you could say this new adventure will be an exciting one for all of us. You never know I just might have to start baking again.

Where did you guys move to???
we will sure miss seeing your faces at church!
How many Catholics does it take to move a family of 8...? We ALWAYS have fun w/ you no matter what activity is at hand. We wish you would have moved a little closer.
I know you will miss the farm, but the kids will have fun discovering new sardine hiding spots! The new house is beautiful.
