His hands and everything else!

My Daddy's Hands
My daddy’s special in many ways and he means so much to me.
But his hands are what I love the most – I’m sure you will agree.

My Daddy’s hands are always open to catch me with a hug.
His hands are quick to give me a pull when my wagon needs a tug.

My Daddy’s hands Baptize and confirm me and bless me when I’m sick.
His hands always make me laugh when they wrestle or play a silly trick.

My Daddy's hands are smart hands and they can fix most anything.
His hands are softest when they wipe the tears that life can bring.

My Daddy’s hands pick me up and carry me until his back gives out.
Still they’re there to help me learn to catch a ball, a bug, or a trout.

My Daddy’s hands are quiet when they’re folded reverently in prayer.
His hands give my back a gentle pat to let me know he cares.

My Daddy’s hands can be firm when they guide me to do what’s right.
I feel safest when they hold me close and protect me from the night.

My Daddy’s hands wash and brush my hair to give it a new look.
His hands tuck me into bed, and turn the pages of my book.

My Daddy’s hands aren’t pretty hands; they’re rough calloused and abused.
His hands tie my shoe, wipe my nose, and clap the loudest (even when I lose).

My Daddy’s hands work so very, very hard to give us all we need.
I know that through my Daddy’s hands my life is blessed indeed

It is still Fathers Day (for about 7 more minutes). As I catch the last few minutes of this day I wanted to take a second to pay tribute to Wayne - who just happens to be the best Dad in the whole wide world. (Since I shared a poem on Mother’s Day, it only seems fitting I should share another one today so bear with my attempts at poetry!). I wrote this for Wayne several years ago and had it framed for Father’s Day along with a few pictures. I have passed by it several times a day over the years, but I haven’t taken the time to read it. Rewriting the words for this post has given me the opportunity to reflect on the memories behind the words, and I am reminded too of the great blessing it is to have Wayne at the head of our family.
