Almost an Eagle

Gable has been involved in scouting for several years and has almost reached the pinnacle achievement of earning his eagle.  The project he chose was so appropriate for him because it combined his love for the military and the elderly (he was involved with a service project at school where he worked with Alzheimer patients and had a memorable experience).  He built a pergola for the Fitzsimmons Veterans nursing home which is a nursing home for veterans, their wives, or parents of fallen vets (learn more about it HERE).  If you haven't had any experience with scouting (like I hadn't before Gable), you might be surprised to know how much time and work goes into completing an eagle scout project.  From the planning to the write up to the fund raising and then the execution - it's quite an undertaking.  He still has steps to take before he gets his board of review and becomes an eagle scout, but watching him complete this project was a wonderful experience as a parent.  It was humbling to watch so many people assemble together from family and friends, to men from our ward, but what impressed me the most was watching as these young men put aside a Saturday to do something so worth while - too bad teenagers get such a bad rap because there sure are some really great ones out there!

Here's some pictures of the building day.  There's a lot of them, but they tell the story better than I ever could.  (they really aren't in any particular order)
